The Conservation Commission was established in 1964 “for the development and conservation of natural resources in Redding.” In 1973, the Commission was authorized to promulgate regulations protecting inland wetlands and watercourses. It periodically prepares an inland Wetlands Map and an Open Space Map and maintains an index of both public and private open space land areas. The Town, with input from the Conservation Commission, has established trails for hiking, riding, and cross-country skiing.
The Conservation Commission meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month (or as posted), 7:30 p.m., in the Old Town House. Members of the Conservation Commission are Town Officials appointed by the First Selectman.
Wetlands Regulations
The Town of Redding, through its Conservation Commission, passed the Redding Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Regulations. These regulations describe what activities are considered “Regulated Activities” and define the inland wetland areas within the Town. The Redding Inland Wetlands Map is available at the Conservation Commission Office in the Old Town House building.
License/Application for Wetlands Activities
All regulated activities require an Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Application.< This application, if approved by the Conservation Commission, provides the applicant with a five-year license to conduct the regulated activity described in the applications – subject to limitations and/or conditions set as part of the application approval process. These applications and instructions may be obtained from the Town of Redding Land Use Coordinator or the Conservation Commission Office in the Redding Old Town Hall building.
